MUSICA ST JAMES’ is the name given to concerts and other musical events operating outside of the Weekly, Monthly and other Special Services schedules. The name was coined in 2008 to celebrate the installation of a new pipe organ at St. James’: it presents concerts and other events featuring local and international artists in one of Dundas’ most intimate and acoustically beautiful spaces.

The WORDS of Albert Schweitzer
and the MUSIC of Johann Sebastian Bach
A Benefit Concert supporting the Canadian Friends of Hopital Albert Schweitzer – Haiti

“Reverence for Life” – a creed adopted by Theologian, Physician, Concert Organist, and noted Bach Scholar Albert Schweitzer, lies at the centre of this unique fusion of word, music, and projected image. The Sanctity of life, the primacy of human commitment to its own race and planet, and the immortal words and music that brought them together in the life of perhaps the 20th century’s founding humanist make for an unforgettable evening’s experience.
The premiere of this acclaimed multimedia production combining the spoken word, recorded and live music and projected images was held in Nashville, Tennessee, October, 1995. Actor Hugh O’Brian, who had visited Dr. Schweitzer at his African hospital in 1957, spoke the words of Albert Schweitzer. O’Brian said, “Mine is a personal reason to be speaking the words of Albert Schweitzer. It’s a work of love, a work of respect and it’s an honour.”
St. James’ Director of Music Christopher Dawes was himself honoured to perform in this production during the International Peace “Symposium 2000″ in Nashville, and is delighted along with the congregation of St. James’ now to be bringing it to Dundas in support of the work of the Canadian Friends of Hopital Albert Schweitzer – Haiti.
