The Venerable Jim Sandilands ~ Rector of St. James/Archdeacon of Mohawk

Jim has spent many years in parish ministry and in hospital chaplaincy.  He has a warm presence that allows people to feel immediately comfortable talking to him.  Passionate about music, he’s a gifted jazz bassist who plays at our monthly Jazz Vespers services in addition to gigs elsewhere.  Jim also serves as Chaplain to Dundas Branch 36 of the Royal Canadian Legion.

The Reverend Elizabeth Steeves ~ Associate Priest

Elizabeth has served at several parishes within the diocese and also has experience in hospital chaplaincy.  She has worked most recently in the non-profit sector, providing community and recreation programming for children and teens with special needs.  Elizabeth works with the parish on a 3/4 time basis, providing support at worship services, assisting with the Play ’N Learn and Third @ Four communities, and assisting with pastoral care, as well.  She is married to James and together they live in the east end of Hamilton with their three children: Nathan, Benjamin, and Simon.

Ms. Margaret Koblyk ~ Parish Secretary

Margaret really enjoys working with everyone at St. James, from the clergy and volunteers, to other members of the congregation, as well.  She’s often the first point of contact for people visiting or phoning the church.  Her smile goes a long way in making visitors feel welcome.

Mr. Christopher Dawes ~ Director of Music: Organist & Choir Director

A prominent freelance musician and a consultant in church music and musical genre, Christopher Dawes (FRCCO, M.A. (Music Criticism)) spent 12 years at the organ and then later as the Director of Music of St. James’ Cathedral in Toronto. Since 2004, Chris has been the Director of Canada’s Summer Institute of Church Music, senior accompanist and coach to the choral and instrumental conducting programs and accompanist to the MacMillan Singers at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Music, and a resident musician for various productions of Theatre Erindale (Sheridan Institute/U of T Mississauga). Chris lives in Georgetown with his wife Marcia and their three children: Nate, Simon, and Charlotte.

The Reverend Deacon Rob Roi ~ Parish Deacon
Rob has been a member of the parish for over 50 years and has served the community in many capacities through the years. As a deacon, Rob assists with the liturgies and takes communion to those who aren’t able to worship with the community at public services.  He is also the curator of the Art Gallery at St. James, which brings artists and their creations from outside the parish into our midst.
