Meet our December Artist:
Jill Birks

Jill Birks creates spontaneous abstracts by layering, glazing and scraping to achieve a balance of color, line and shape. She incorporates ‘legacy’ paints and inks inherited from an aunt and her mother, which are inspiring. Her works are intuitive with a focus on grounded reflections of summers at Lake Huron, to a deeper consideration of the earth’s natural power and wonder. Onto endless possibilities, while humankind continues our exploration of the universe.

Jill studied literature, then fine art before working as a scenic painter and muralist. Having painted professionally for many years, her commissions reside in casinos, hotels, restaurants and event spaces in Canada and the United States. She left commissioned work to return to personal, evocative abstracts. Jill paints in her home studio in Ancaster.
