Tuesday Evening Prayer

The Tuesday evening prayer group has evolved.

We are now meeting in a hybrid format. You are welcome to join on Tuesday evening at 6:15 in the parlour at St. James, or through Zoom at the same time. If you would like to join via Zoom,

please email the office on Tuesdays by 4:00pm at stjamesdundas@outlook.com

The meeting is a combination of prayer and discussion of either a devotional or a passage from scripture. We look forward to welcoming you.

WEDNESDAY – COMPLINE – 9:15 p.m. Compline is a short service of night prayer. The heart of Compline is the recitation of several psalms. There is a short reading from scripture, intercession, and time for reflection. It is a beautiful way to close out an active day. Compline is offered by St. James’ through Facebook to bring the community together. If you cannot join live, the service is available afterwards on St. James’ Facebook channel.

‘Sharing their Gifts’ Event - April 5, 2025

Tickets are on sale for the St. James' "Sharing Our Gifts Event".   There are two ticket options.  The first option is to attend a performance at 5:00 pm of ‘Ushindi: When We are Welcome’ followed by an authentic Kurdish dinner. Tickets are $75.

Or you may attend a performance of the play at 2:00 pm followed by Arabic desserts, coffee and tea. Tickets for the matinee are $25.  Guests are invited to come early before the play for a glass of wine and explore the silent auction and other wares for sale.

Ushindi is a collective of women who were recently awarded the YWCA 2025 Honourary Women of Distinction Award.  The group is made up of eight newcomers to Canada who met and lived at the YWCA in Hamilton and a creative team who helped the group create and showcase the original play "Ushindi:  When We are Welcome.  Ushindi is the Swahili word for “victory”.  The women wanted to share their experiences of navigating an unfamiliar country without their families and traditional support systems.  They performed the play in July 2024 during the Hamilton Fringe Festival and won an award.  The Ushindi Collective will receive a portion of the ticket sales for their performances on April 5th.

Tickets may be purchased online at stjamesdundas.ca, the church office or on Sundays after the service.  Make sure to buy early as numbers are limited for the dinner and play combo.

Please encourage your family and friends to attend this inspiring and entertaining event.

If you have questions, be in touch with Lynn Dykeman, Planning Committee Chair.
